What is the Fasting Mimicking Diet?
The first and only scientifically developed and clinically tested fast, where the body is biologically fasting, while eating only the prescribed foods. The FMD provides you with a combination of foods and ingredients able to reprogram the body into a regenerating and rejuvenating mode, resulting in positive health benefits that range from reducing body weight and abdominal fat, and unlike other diets, preserve lean body mass. In addition, it helps maintain healthy glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, C-reactive protein, embryonic stem cells and IGF-1, all while improving the aging process.
What are the fasting foods like?
The meal program consists of scientifically formulated, highly nourishing, delicious soups, bars, snacks, teas, drinks and supplements that are ready to take and eat on the go. All the foods are plant based, all natural, gluten and dairy free foods. The foods are easy to prepare and taste delicious. Day 1 is a 1,100 calories diet while the following 4 days are around 770 calories. While total calories are one dimension of the product, the most important dimensions is the proprietary 66 ingredient formulation that mimics and enhances the fasting state.
How do I get support during the program?
- You will have an initial consultation with Preventative Medical Clinic’s certified nutritionist to review your health and wellness goals, health history and medications.
- The FMD will be explained and all your questions answered.
- During the program you will also receive daily emails and have access to our nutritionist for encouragement and guidance.
- After the 5 day fast you will meet with our nutritionist to discuss what to eat on day 6 and 7 while coming off the fast and how to return to a normal diet.
- During this appointment, supplement recommendations may be made along with a meal plan to follow.
- You will be weighed on our InBody scale before and after the FMD to monitor fat mass, muscle mass and total weight lost.
- A report will be printed and given to you to keep for your records.
How long will I see results?
During the 5 day fast, most people lose 5-6 pounds of body fat. After the 5 days our nutritionist will educate you on the short transition diet. Due to the FMD, the metabolic system is reset along with fasting blood glucose supporting continued weight loss for the next 30 days. Meanwhile, you will be noticing the anti-aging and health benefits from the fast. The FMD can then be repeated depending on your goals and our nutritionist’s recommendations.
In a large clinical trial conducted at the University of Southern California Longevity Institute and The Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute, the FMD was shown to have a statistically significant effect on participants who had undergone 3 cycles of the FMD and returned to their normal diets. The study showed that all participants had a decrease in abdominal fat, waist circumference, IGF-1, blood pressure, total cholesterol, C- reactive protein and an increase in lean body mass and stem cell regeneration.
